Located in the Caribbean, Haiti is on the western half of the island of Hispaniola. It is home to 11.5 million people and is the poorest country in the Western hemisphere. Discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1492, Haiti gained its independence from France in 1804 and became the first independent black country in the world. Roughly 60% of the population lives below the poverty line.
Despite these challenges, Haiti is a nation of resilient, faith-filled people. Mission Light of Life partners with local communities to deliver sustainable solutions that meet physical and spiritual needs.
